Affirmations have been given a bad rap lately because of the lack of understanding of the energy behind them.
Once you understand about the energy behind the words used in your affirmations, your faith in affirmations will return and your life will begin to change for the better.
Affirmations are not so much about words
Words have energy behind them and that is the energy that the affirmations draw from.
Affirmations are about feelings of knowing something when there is no evidence of it. It’s that energy that makes you feel and know that you are going to wake up and still be alive tomorrow morning.
Affirmations are not wish lists nor nice to have desires. Affirmations are sentences of words that you feel deep inside you as true.
Read the following and pay attention to your body to see how it feels as you read each sentence:
Did you notice how you felt after you read each one of the sentences? If you didn’t pay much attention go back and read them again, but this time notice how each one of them feel in your gut as you read them. Which ones felt true and which ones didn’t?

- I am waking up in the morning
- I am a human being
- My life is open to many possibilities
- I will become president of the United States
- I am great at singing
- I am a wonderful actress
- I am a millionaire
- I will visit Hawaii next summer
- I am smart
- I am beautiful
- I am capable of creating a business
- I will have 2 million dollars in 2 years
- I have a wonderful job
- I totally and completely love and accept myself

Affirmations are confirmations of feelings
Affirmations are confirmations of what you already “know” and feel to be possible according to the emotional state in which you live.
Those affirmations that felt true to you are sentences that you already know deep in your heart that are true. You don’t know how you know, or even that you know, but you know them and that is why they feel true to you.
What may feel true to you, though, do not necessarily feel true to everyone else. Your inner true is directed by your life’s path in this world and your life’s path is not the same as anyone else in this world. So, since each one of us has our own life path and our own inner true, not all affirmations apply to all.
The other key point about affirmations is that they need to feel possible to you. If you say I will have 2 million dollars in two years and don’t believe it’s possible, unless you feel that inner knowing that it will happen but have no idea how, it won’t come to pass.
Let’s explore this more. In this case of the 2 million dollars it would be better to lower the amount to make it sound more like something you believe deep in your heart. Maybe 1 million sounds more credible to you, or maybe $100,000 or $10,000 or $1,000. Did you notice how $1,000 feels too low? Maybe $10,000 sounds good, but it feels it could be more. Not $100,000 but certainly more than $10,000.
Do you get the idea? It’s not so much about the amount of the things you are trying to acquire or become or do as it is about your belief and feeling of knowing that it is possible and true.

Create affirmations you can feel true
Now that you know how affirmations work, you can create your own. Look within yourself and begin writing those deep desires of your heart. Remember, there doesn’t need to be an explanation of the affirmation nor there has to be a how it will come to pass. What matters is that it feels good in your gut. This indication means that the affirmation is possible and true to you.
Don’t try to reason it, don’t try to explain it, and don’t try to justify it. This good feeling about a particular affirmation is your guide to your true north; your guide to your life’s path, to your destiny.
If for any reason you “know” deep within yourself that the affirmation is not true, the affirmation is useless and maybe even harm you more than benefit you.
Affirmations harm you when you expect it to be true but in reality you know deep within yourself that it is not. The incongruence of expecting and knowing energies causes an imbalance in your body which then causes stress in your mind. These feelings of incongruence make you believe that what you desire is not possible, that affirmations are useless and that you are not going to acquire, become or do anything you desire.
If a very specific and detailed affirmation does not feel true to you, then don’t get that specific and make it more general, turn it into a baby step toward the big affirmation, or turn it into a question.
So, pay close attention to your affirmations and create and stick with those that feel true to you. And if for some reason some affirmations don’t feel true now, it doesn’t mean they will not feel true later, especially those that you truly and deeply desire. So, keep creating and keep affirming.

It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen." –Muhammad Ali
Don’t lose hope in affirmations, instead become smart and create affirmations that you can feel that are true to you. Trust them, believe them and above all, expect them.
