When you know yourself you respect, honor, and love yourself more. When you do this for yourself, you also learn to do it for others.
If you’re going to do anything worthwhile in this life, I would say, get to know yourself. Knowing yourself allows you to live a happier life with purpose and meaning.
When you know yourself you don’t need anyone’s approval or attention. Also, you won’t need to find what you’re looking for in places that take you nowhere because you will know how to exactly obtain what truly makes you happy.
What is knowing yourself?
Knowing yourself is about knowing all about you. It’s about knowing what you like, what you don’t like, why you like it, why you don’t like it, why you do what you do, why you don’t do some things, why you do other ones.
Understanding what things about you might never change and what things about you are possible to change, and under what circumstances, will help you be flexible and ready for change since change is what life is all about.
Knowing yourself is also about what you value, what you respect, what you desire, what you hope, and what you dreams and passions are. Knowing yourself is about knowing what really makes you tick.
Once you know what makes you tick, it will be so much easier to life your life, to go after what makes you feel good, and to stay away from what doesn’t make you feel good.

Benefits to knowing yourself
When you know yourself you are more open to opportunities, people, and experiences that will help you grow and feel better.
When you know yourself you are prepared to live a life with purpose and meaning since most of your decisions and actions will be based and oriented toward you feeling truly good.
We’re always making decisions and taking action based on what we think will makes us feel good. When you know yourself you no longer act on what you, or others, think will make you feel better. When you know yourself you’re certain that your decisions and actions will make you feel better.
Once you know and understand the process and benefit of knowing yourself, you begin to be aware of what others are going through in their own lives, therefore, your relationships with others will become more meaningful, kind and compassionate.

How to know yourself
Knowing yourself can be quite overwhelming and take some time. So, first focus on the things that bring you more unpleasant reactions and experiences. Master the critical ones first and then continue with the ones you feel need to be addressed next.
The goal to knowing yourself is to know yourself more than your mother knows you. See it as your main goal in life. Strive to know yourself more than you want to know about celebrities, or about some athletes, or about other people or historical events.
To you, you need to be more important than any of those. To you, you need to be first; you need to get to know yourself first.
- Make lists. Make a list of things that you have noticed that are important for you to happen or not to happen. Make lists of things that make you feel good and lists of things that make you feel not so good. Make lists of anything you think is important and valuable to you; some of these lists can include anything tangible and non-tangible.
- Remember how you’ve reacted in the past. Remember things from your past. Things that evoked strong positive or negative emotions from you. Put them in the corresponding list you made. Keep in mind when reviewing your past, sometimes we change and things that bothered us before, no longer do and vice versa.
- Ask others that know you well. Ask people close to you and or that know you well, questions that can help you know more about yourself. Ask only questions you’re ready to hear the answer to. Paraphrase your questions properly.
- Muscle testing. If you’re ready to know more about yourself from now on, use your muscles to get answers. Before you make a decision you’re not certain about, ask your body for an answer. Learn more about how to do muscle testing here.
- Numerology. If you’re up to get faster answers, go to numerology and astrology. Numerology is based on the idea that the numbers that come with you have a message. I’ve tried it and I agree with this idea. Numerology is one of the few reasons why I began writing. You need to be careful who you hire to get your numbers though. For numerology I recommend Kari.
- Astrology. Astrology is also a great one. Astrology is based on the idea that the position of the planets of our solar system at the time of your birth has a message. The entire message of your life. I might not need to say it again but here it goes, be careful who you hire for your natal chart and reading. For astrology I recommend Susan.

The first thing you have to know is yourself. A man who knows himself can step outside himself and watch his own reactions like an observer.” ― Adam Smith
Knowing about yourself can help you change and improve your life more than knowing about anything or anyone else. It can help you live with more freedom, happy, and at peace.
