Learn 5 simple but great reasons of why being an optimist, even if for a few minutes a day, helps you live a better life. If you have to choose between being optimist and being realist, choose to be an optimist. Life is more enjoyable being optimistic. There is no benefit in ever starting something if you think you will not be successful. That's why being optimistic is the first thing you need to take control of whenever you’re about to start a new journey, project, or phase in life. The definition of being optimistic is “disposed to take a favorable view of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.” Be a balanced optimist It’s impossible to be optimistic all the time. It’s part of human life to experience all emotions of the spectrum throughout our lives. Sometimes we feel good other times we feel not so good. But as long as we spend more time doing all we can possibly can to feel good, we can quickly return to optimism. What is possible is to be balanced optimist. A balanced and optimistic person sees both the negative and positive but still expects success and makes an effort for things to turn out the best possible. Although there are some people that want to be optimistic, it’s not so easy for them because they’re too ingrained in their every pleasant and unpleasant aspect of their lives that they cannot see a way to change their perspective. This is what so many people call to being “realist.” But let me tell you something, if you need to stop being a “realist” to become an optimistic person, then stop being a realist. Being a realist hasn’t helped you much so far, hasn’t it? The 5 reasons to be optimistic There are countless benefits to being optimistic, but today I only want to focus on these 5 great reasons. 1.- Optimistic people see more of the positive than the negative Optimism can be learned. Make it a game to look for the positive in your life. If you can only find one positive thing in your life, focus on that. It’s going to take practice but it can be done. You need to persevere, believe, and trust that you can do it. You can also ask others to help you see positivism in your life, especially when you’re going through an adversity. >> So, practice seeing the positive in your life and your experiences for 5 minutes at the time at least 3 times a day for 30 days. Before the end of the 30 days you’ll notice how you’d be paying more attention to the positive than the negative in your life and in the world around you. 2.- Optimistic people are more resilient A resilient person is a person that can quickly recover from adversity; and adversity is an experience needed to help us clarify our dreams and desires. Any adversity that comes our way can quickly take us out of optimism if we don’t have a strong inner center. But if we do, we can return to optimism just as quickly. >> What can help you here is to understand and accept the purpose of every adversity. This is going to make it easy for you to regulate your emotions and return to optimism. 3.- Optimism can help improve health According to a study optimistic people have better health than pessimistic people. This happens because when we are stressed, most of the energy needed to keep organs running properly is taken away to areas that need to be enhanced to keep you alive and safe from harm. Doing this too often leaves those organs undernourished from living energy and eventually begin to malfunction. When you’re optimistic, all organs are supplied with the required energy and tend to stay healthy. So, keep in mind at all times what stress does to your organs. >>To help you reduce stress, you can do meditation, you can become more aware of what thoughts you’re paying attention to, and again focus on the positive of your life and circumstances. 4.- Optimistic people are more attuned to themselves When you feel optimist you’re more inclined to pay attention to how you feel. You’re also more open to listen to your inner guidance and to your dreams and desires. This openness makes it easier for you to see new ideas, new opportunities and better possibilities. It can also help you to have better experiences and to learn from all kinds of situations. Learning from all kinds of situations is what’s going to help you grow and keep moving forward in life. >>To maintain yourself attuned to your Self, make it a habit to spend a few minutes alone and in silence. During this time you can meditate, reflect, contemplate or appreciate. 5.- Optimistic people spread good vibes. This is my favorite reason to stay optimistic. When you’re optimistic other people can see it and sense it. It’s like you’re spreading good vibes wherever you go and people go above and beyond to help you. This happens to me very often and it’s very rewarding not just because they help me in all I need, but because by them doing so they can also feel good. Just like laughter is contagious, so is optimism. >>To prove the effects I’m telling you, do whatever is in your hands to help or assist the next optimistic person that comes your way. You’ll notice how by helping them you’ll also feel good. Use the good feeling from that experience to remind you to stay optimistic as much as you can. An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.” –Winston Churchill In a scale from 1-10, with 1 being the most pessimist person you can be, and 10 being the most positive person you can be, where would you say you are? Is that how you want to feel? If not, can any of the reasons above help you feel optimistic? Let me know in the comments below.
