We all have a mind but most of us don’t know how it functions much less how to keep it healthy. It is of utmost importance that we learn all about our mind so we have and maintain a good mental health.
Once you understand more about your mind, you’ll realize what a magnificent being you are.
What is Mental Health?
Mental health is about paying attention to the health of our mind. A healthy mind produces thoughts that empower us. When we become empowered, it supports our good mental health. And when our mental health is good, it produces empowering thoughts. It’s a cycle. Let’s understand it more.
We live in a world of a dual nature. We have the capability to see light and darkness, hear melody and noise, touch hot and cold, feel love and fear. Not only our senses can experience duality but also do our mind.
Actually, it is because our mind can function from a duality, low and high mind, that we perceive everything else to have the same duality. This mind duality means we have the capability to function from a lower or a higher mind.

Higher and lower minds
Functioning from our lower mind is about functioning from the fear and aggression responses of the body. This response is caused by the activation of the sympathetic nervous system when our body feels threatened causing it to be out of harmony and balance.
When we function from our lower mind for at least two weeks, our life force energy significantly drains out of our body and we begin to feel depressed, numb, and empty. Pretty much lifeless.
When we function from our higher mind, our body is full of life force energy and we feel all the positive emotions we like to feel: playfulness, happiness, serenity, peace, love, joy, harmony, freedom, and more.
You have a choice to function from the lower or higher mind. When you decide to focus on disempowering thoughts, thoughts of doubt, worry, resentment, anger, shame, fear, regret—thoughts that trigger emotions from the 0-50 in the Harmony Scale, you are functioning from your lower mind. This means you are focusing too much on the negative side of life and live in fear.
When you decide to focus on empowering thoughts, thoughts of hope, trust, optimism, playfulness, inspiration, happiness, acceptance, clarity, peace, love, joy, harmony, and freedom—thoughts that trigger emotions from the 60-100 in the Harmony Scale, you are functioning from your higher mind. This means you are focusing on the positive side of life and live in love.

How to keep good mental health?
To have and keep a good mental health, choose to function from your higher mind as often as possible.
To help you with this, do everything you can possibly do to remove the current perceptions of monsters (the most negative possibility of everything) that might be living in your mind. Keep in mind that just like it took time to accumulate all those monsters in the mind, it will take time to release them—much less time of course.

Start releasing the invisible monsters in your mind by:
- Healing your past. We all experienced emotional hurts in the past. It is part of the game of life. We needed those hurts to give us direction in life but you no longer need some of them. So, first, start healing and letting them go.
- Calming your nervous system: focus on taking care of your basic survival needs (food, clothing, shelter), stay away from any kind of drama (in person, online, magazines, etc.), and avoid knee-jerking experiences (horror films, haunted houses, and the like).
- Bringing your body to harmony: do all you can to have a good night’s sleep, eat food that don’t bloat your body or make you feel sluggish, and get your body moving so it releases accumulated energies it no longer needs.
- Maintaining your humanity happy: express your creativity without fear of judgement (find a way in which you feel safe expressing yourself), try new empowering things (it helps you stay in the present), and connect with other mind-healthy people to support each other.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.” —Kahlil Gibran
If we have an equal opportunity to function from our lower or higher mind, why not choose to function from our higher mind? It feels better. And we all want to feel better.
