Have you ever wondered what it means to be Spiritual? Do you need to be Spiritual? And most importantly, how do you become Spiritual? Being spiritual is about connecting, communicating and identifying ourselves with the Spirit we really are and it has nothing to do with religion. We might get confused at times while seeing, feeling, and experiencing everything in this life. But our true and real Self is something more than that. We are more than what you can see and feel and touch. We are Spirit; we are Light. Do you need to be spiritual? If you desire a joyous and fulfilled experience while living in this world, you need to be spiritual. Being spiritual is about identifying ourselves more with the Spirit we really are than with our bodies. Identify yourself with YouIn order to identify yourself with whom you really are, you need to see yourself as your Spirit and connect with It. You connect with your Spirit by calming your personality, calming your mind, and calming your thoughts. Human Model: Spirit/Light -> Soul/Chakras -> Physical Body -> Personality/Mind To connect and identify yourself with your true Self, you need to travel backwards in the human model. You need to go back from your personality and mind to connect with your Spirit. The good news is that you don’t need to travel that far back. All you need to do is pay attention to your body since through your Soul your Spirit is already there. This sure makes it easier and achievable in our minds to become Spiritual, don’t you think? Now that you know how easy is to be Spiritual, all you need to do now is to tune in with your body. Tune in with your body I’ve written about how to calm our minds before because calming the mind is very important if we want to be able to relax and tune in with our bodies. By now I’m sure you’ve heard countless times already that in order to meditate you need to calm your mind. You don’t need to stop it from functioning; you don’t want that for sure. The mind is good. All you need to know is how to control it and train it. When we train our dogs we put them on a leash, we show them who the leader is, and we make sure we do so for many days until they learn the process and are trained. Your mind and thoughts work on a similar way. When you're walking your dog to teach him how to behave while walking, you are not going to let him pull you in whatever direction he wants. You are the one with the control and will only let him go to those places you want him to go according to your training plan. Just like you pull your dog’s leash to direct him to your desired direction, you’re to pull the leash of your thoughts in your mind. Don’t let them run wild without control because you will be running behind them, and that doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel good because that’s not natural; because that’s not what our mind was designed for. We were never meant to be managed by our minds. The mind is a tool to be used for our benefit not the other way around. I don’t want you to make this a battle in your head though; it doesn’t need to be that way. Make it smooth with decisiveness and power. No need to struggle. As soon as you notice a thought related to your daily living coming to your mind don’t follow it, stay put, and go back to your plan to stay relaxed and calm. When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world.” -Eckhart Tolle Love the silenceYour Spirit, the extension of the Light we all are, is already in your body. All you need to do now is to get in silence, pay more attention to how you’re feeling in your body, and listen. Every major spiritual practice teaches us that the first thing we need to do in order to communicate with God, or to connect with our Selves, is to be in silence. Silence from all outside noise but most importantly silence from the inside voice coming from our minds. The reason is so that all of our attention gets focused and directed towards one point; to our Spirit. If you can only find silence in a church or temple that's okay although it's not necessary. You can find silence in your house, at the park, at the lake, in the mountains, anywhere. You don't need to go to a specific place to find your Spirit because your Spirit is within you and it goes with you wherever you go. Once you achieve total silence and get quiet enough, you will then begin to feel and hear your Spirit. The main reason for us to be spiritual and communicate with our Spirit is so we can get direction for our lives. Our Spirit knows our intention and life’s purpose and we can use that direction right now to improve our lives. This means that if you desire to feel fulfilled and joyous in your life, you need to get information from that intention and move towards it. You might not always get the entire picture of your life’s intention, but for sure you're always getting a step by step direction. Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation.” - Rumi Now you know that connecting with God, with our Spirit, with our Light, it’s easy, necessary and something we all really want to do, even when we might not accept it or know it consciously. Do you need help connecting with You? I can help you. Just like there are many methods to connect with Spirit, there could also be many way to interpret what being Spiritual really is. I am starting to shift my perception of 'self discipline', something that i always rebelled against and thought was limiting my life. Now I see that the disciplined mind is actually giving me the most incredible freedom.

I totally understand what you say Rachel! I also thought self discipline was limiting until I realized I needed it for some areas of my life to flourish. Thx :)

Yes, the mind is a tool! We are not our thoughts or our mind. This is a tough concept for folks to wrap their 'minds' around. ;)

That is because sometimes we feel so identified with those thoughts and because we have not been taught we are not one and the same with them. 9/14/2016 08:57:47 am
I love this! Spirituality is completely different from religion. So true. I have always been a spiritual person. In fact when I am not connected with spirit, my life is much more chaotic. my mind races, and my anxiety is usually higher. Calming through meditation, being curious about my physical self, and then connecting to Spirit is the way towards joy!

If we are in tune with our true Self, with Spirit, we will not tend to gravitate to the other end, our minds. Thanks Michelle :) 9/14/2016 09:01:07 am
For me, spirituality is meditating my life and walking in grace everyday. Beautiful post Claudia

Nature and animals are very spiritual because they don't have the mind we have. Nothing wrong with our mind though. We need it the way it is for the humanity plan which is different from theirs. Thank you Lea for reminding me of nature :) 9/14/2016 10:57:50 am
Being spiritual is being imperfectly me. When I am in the moment accepting all that is without judgement, I am golden. I have taught and been a practioner of meditation for years, it helps train my mind to become a witness to all of those bothersome thoughts and sensations. Thanks for your post Claudia!
