I’m sure you’ve heard that stress causes the physical body to get sick, but it’s one of those subjects we already know and still do nothing about it, or in some cases don’t even know what to do. The purpose of this post is so you can understand how and why stress and negative emotions get your body sick and what you can do to keep it healthy. I’m going to explain in very general terms what I understand happens when the body is affected by stress and our emotions. I’m not a Doctor, I’m an Engineer and this is only my understanding. The relaxed state, the stressed state and the balancer I see the physical body composed of two parts. One part is the relaxed state, the part that keeps everything inside the physical body functioning just perfectly as it was intended. The other part is the stressed state, the part that keeps the body alive and safe from getting hurt. In between the relaxed and the stressed states there is a balancer. This balancer I see it as the living intelligence and energy of the body. The energy of the body goes where it is needed based on the needs of the physical body itself. It goes to the relaxed state or the stressed state or it balances between the two. Too much stress in our bodies When the body is undergoing too much stress and/or fear, like when it feels threatened by predators, the entire balancer of energy moves to the stressed state to provide all the energy necessary to keep the physical body alive. But when the balancer spends too much time in the stressed state trying to protect it, to keep it alive, it leaves the relaxed state unprotected. This means that the energy needed to keep the physical body healthy is not there. Too much stress leaves the physical body unprotected and prone to getting sick. Our current ways of getting stressed out has changed and it’s no longer caused by predators. The types of stressors in our current way of life now have to do more with everyday things like work, money, relationships and health. In the case of health, stressing about sickness will only cause more of it because being stressed out causes the energy balancer to leave the physical body unprotected while it focuses on creating physical strength to keep you alive and safe from immediate physical danger caused by stress. In other cases is your perception of life that causes you to see problems and to experience negative emotions such as frustration, anxiety, worry, doubt, resentment, anger, etc. Although some of these emotions are activated when in danger, we all know we experience these emotions more often than when we’re in danger. For some of us feeling these emotions is an everyday thing. Sometimes there are genuine reasons to feel these negative emotions, but there are many more times when we ourselves unconsciously feed those emotions just by following thoughts that have neither reason nor foundation. Don’t follow those negative thoughts and don’t pay attention to them if you think there is no reason to believe them. The best way to improve your health is to relax I’ve said this to sick people, but for some reason they believe that if they're not stressed out they're not producing. They don’t know or understand that being stressed out is never going to help them heal their bodies. If you really want to heal, and if you don’t need to be sick to get attention or to control people or circumstances, then your next step is to relax. When you allow your body to relax, the energy balancer is no longer trying to protect the body from external danger so it moves its attention to the internal physical body to repair it and heal it. When I say you need to relax, I don’t only mean sit down or lay down and do nothing. When I say relax, I mean relax your body and bring it to a tension free mode; relax your mind by not paying attention to the thoughts that are coming to your mind; and relax your words by choosing words that bring love, peace and compassion to yourself and to others. Relaxation is a combination of activities to release tension from your physical body, from your mind and from your words. By consistently doing activities that take care of these three areas, you'll be able to achieve optimal physical health. There are many ways to relax. I don’t mean go to a spa or get a full body massage or pamper yourself, unless these activities will bring true relaxation to all three components of yourself: mind, body and soul. If you have to pick one component, I recommend you to begin relaxing your mind. There are many things you can do anywhere anytime to relax your mind, but if don’t have any idea where to begin, I recommend you to do meditation with conscious breathing. The key is to remember that how our minds feel as we go about our day—how relaxed, happy, and fulfilled we are—gets translated into the physiology of the body.” ― Dr. Lissa Rankin What internal steps do you take to keep your body healthy, steps that relax any or all three components of your Self? You read my mind Claudia! I saw this phrase earlier this week and added it to my journal, RELAX YOUR MIND. I so agree, "If you have to pick one component, I recommend you to begin relaxing your mind." I need to turn mine off sometimes. This morning it was 40 minutes of listening to Dr. Dyer's I A WISHED FULFILLED cd. He calls it the most powerful meditation tool in the world. xo Un abrazo

Oh boy, do I know this to be true! In May, my health tanked because I didn't practice enough self care as I was coping with my dad's death, my dog's cancer diagnosis and moving. I got SO SICK. Thank you for the reminder to take care of ourselves! xoxo

You're welcome Jill. I'm glad you're so much better now <3
Having once been that person who ate stress for breakfast (and didn't even know it), I know first hand what stress can do to one's body, soul, and mind.

I agree Claudia too much stress is not good, neither is too little as we become bored and restless. Being in a state of relaxation, opens me up to spirit leading me to my next best step. Thanks for your blog! xx Comments are closed.
